Curing contaminated and saline land with Industrial crops and producing

Duration: 01/10/2024 - 30/09/2028

Funding : HORIZON-JU-CBE-2023-R1

Consortium: 18 partners, 7 countries

Waste2Bio IIS partners: ULiège-InBioS, Celabor, UCLouvain-ELI

The IASIS project, coordinated by CRES (Center for Renewable Energy Sources and saving, Greece) and involving 18 partners from 7 countries, universities, research centers and companies, aims to offer solutions for restoring contaminated and saline land through phytomanagement. Non-food crops are grown on 7 pilot sites in Greece, Belgium, France, Poland, Portugal and Italy to provide biomass as raw material for the development of bioproducts for the biocontrol and construction sectors, using a cascading biorefinery approach via economically viable value chains. Farmers and landscapers will play an active role in the rehabilitation of contaminated and/or saline soils, providing a sustainable raw material for value-added non-food applications.

Three Waste2Bio partners are involved: ULiège, Celabor and UCLouvain. In addition, Duferco Wallonie is providing a site to serve as a Belgian pilot site.
